SOME LOVELY WORDS...

INDIE DOCK MUSIC BLOG  - LONDON

Formed in 2022 and emerging from the Forest of Dean and Ross-on-Wye, Vendetta Deluxe arrive with fire in their bellies and grime under their fingernails. Vendetta Deluxe's The Drowning Sound arrives like a brick through the window of modern rock's gentrified landscape—unapologetically rough, politically charged, and magnificently alive.

This three-piece doesn't merely reference the alt-rock pantheon of Nirvana and Pixies; they genuinely understand what made those bands dangerous. The razor-sharp guitars slice through each track with surgical precision while the rhythm section pounds away with the relentless fury of machinery. The production captures every ragged edge and raw nerve, refusing to polish away the authentic grit that gives these songs their visceral punch.

Lyrically, the band navigates between the minutiae of life in ex-mining communities and wider socially political themes with remarkable dexterity. Songs addressing post-industrial decay sit alongside broader statements of dissent, all delivered through harmonies that recall the Manic Street Preachers at their most urgent. The vocals carry genuine weight—this isn't posturing but lived experience transformed into art.

The album's sonic palette draws from grunge's emotional intensity and punk's revolutionary spirit without falling into pastiche. Each track builds from foundations of thundering drums and gritty bass lines, creating a wall of sound that feels both nostalgic and entirely contemporary. The Forest of Dean may be geographically removed from rock's traditional breeding grounds, but Vendetta Deluxe prove that authenticity travels well.

The Drowning Sound stands as testament to rock music's enduring power to channel frustration, hope, and defiance into something transcendent. This is music with dirt under its nails and rebellion in its heart—exactly what guitar music needs right now.

Straight out of the Forest of Dean, Vendetta Deluxe unleash a sound that refuses to be ignored. The Drowning Sound’ is a wall of energy—packed with thunderous drums, snarling riffs, and hooks that stick long after the last track fades.

Like most three-piece bands (a form that has been medically proven to be the best delivery system for rock and roll expression), their songs, or at least the constituent parts, are straightforward, uncomplicated, punchy, and, well, near perfect. The guitar fires off salvos of raw riffage, the bass line mixes melody with muscle, and the drums keep everything powering along, simple enough perhaps, but when it is all put together….well, it restores your faith in rock and roll.

A killer sonic rollercoaster ride The one advantage of doing what I do for a living is the regularity with which you find your next favourite band. Vendetta Deluxe is certainly that, and it is going to take something a bit special to dislodge them from that rarified realm.

MUSIC ON THE ROX - USA

The Drowning Sound is a bold and honest record that moves through different shades of intensity without ever losing its identity. Vendetta Deluxe have managed to craft an album that feels raw and human while still being musically sharp. There are moments of chaos, moments of hope, and moments of playfulness, all tied together by a band that clearly knows how to balance energy with meaning. This album does not just ask you to listen. It makes you feel.

ANT LEWIS - ENW

Finally got to hearing the Drowning Sound. Damn, it’s good. The playing, production, songwriting all immaculate. Powerful, passionate and hook after hook. Lar Hughes lyrics and vocals are perfect. It actually sounds like a classic album but that’s not to say it’s not fresh and immediate.
